Which factors influence the success in pedigree analysis?

Pedigree problems are typical tasks in school genetics classes. However, they perceived as difficult and often not successfully completed. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to determine relevant factors that might have an impact on success pedigree analysis. Based previous research, we investigate influence superficial appearance (relating a well-known misconception), mode inheritance, content knowledge, reasoning abilities, last biology grade, mental effort. This means, simultaneously examining student task characteristics. For purpose, analyse data from N = 135 students, who solved four each, using Generalised Linear Mixed Models (GLMMs). Specifically, use multilevel logistic regression variables question. The final model shows mixed results: example, represented inheritance has no significant influence. pedigree, contrast, one important predictors identifying present inheritance. our results imply students make decisions based misconceptions when analysing problems. all other discussed order infer implications for teaching learning
